NHL National Cable TV Schedule 1/31– 2/6, 2019

After last week’s All-Star Break, it’s a full schedule of action as we hit the stretch run, basically two months until the playoffs start. With the trade deadline looming, teams are decided whether or not they’re buyers or sellers, whether they can make a run or start stocking up for the future.

One team that should be stocking up for the future is the Chicago Blackhawks, who play the Minnesota Wild Saturday on NBC. The matchup probably looked better before the season, as Blackhawks fans from Marengo, IL to Kenosha, WI are looking for a top pick in this year’s draft.

Other games should provide more playoff-related excitement. Here’s the full schedule, all times Eastern:

Thursday, January 31
7:00p Flyers-Bruins NHL Network
Rangers-Devils ESPN+
8:00p Blue Jackets-Jets ESPN+
Saturday, February 2
8:00p Lightning-Rangers NBC
Blackhawks-Wild
Sunday, February 3
12:30p Bruins-Capitals NBC
Wednesday, February 6
8:00p Bruins-Rangers NBCSN

This week’s top matchup is probably the national NBC game on Saturday afternoon, with the Bruins and Capitals playing a rematch of their hard-fought opening night matchup. The Bruins are always a tough out, with their line of Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak a two-way matchup nightmare. But the Caps have perhaps the greatest goal scorer of all time. Added bonus: these two teams don’t like each other much, so expect a lot of extracurricular activity.

Be sure to check back next week for an updated schedule, games to watch, and a whole lot more right here at the TV, Internet, and Phone Blog. Hockey not your bag? We preview the NBA too.

NBA National TV Schedule 1/29 – 2/4, 2019

The last full week of action before the trade deadline has an extensive schedule of nationally televised NBA games. By February 2 when the Lakers play the Western Conference leaders and championship favorite Warriors, Anthony Davis could be a member of the new Showtime—or out of the Western Conference entirely, as there will be many suitors for the Pelicans star. Whether AD winds up partying in Beverly Hills or on the favorite team in Worcester, MA, there will be a significant shift in NBA power before February 7—and the nationally televised broadcasts will be following along.

Here’s the full schedule of games for the week, all times Eastern:

Tuesday, January 29
8:00p Pelicans-Rockets TNT
10:30p Sixers-Lakers TNT
Wednesday, January 30
8:00p Pacers-Wizards ESPN
10:30p Jazz-Blazers ESPN
Thursday, January 31
8:00p Bucks-Raptors TNT
10:30p Sixers-Warriors TNT
Friday, February 1
7:30p Celtics-Knicks ESPN
10:00p Rockets-Nuggets ESPN
Saturday, February 2
8:30p Lakers-Warriors ABC
Sunday, February 3
2:00p Thunder-Celtics ABC
Monday, February 4
7:30p Bucks-Nets NBA TV
10:00p Spurs-Kings NBA TV

The aforementioned Lakers-Warriors game may be the game of the week, depending on deadline moves. If not, the Rockets and Nuggets facing one another in a Western Conference battle on Friday night is probably your best bet for entertainment, and the Thunder-Celtics matchup on Sunday should be a good lead-in to the big football game later on in the day.

NHL National Cable TV Schedule 1/24– 1/30, 2019

Unlike the NBA, which is still in full schedule swing this week, the NHL schedule is abbreviated due to the NHL All-Star Game, which occurs on Saturday at 8pm Eastern on NBC, and is preceded the night before by the often more-entertaining NHL Skills Competition, broadcast at 9pm Eastern on NBC Sports Network.

Teams return to action Monday, and so do the nationally televised games, with the Winnipeg Jets taking on the Philadelphia Flyers on NBC Sports Network to lead off the stretch run toward the trade deadline and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Winnipeg Jets will definitely be buyers at the deadline—will the Flyers be buyers or sellers? Will there be some homes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey on the market? Find out soon.

Here’s the rest of the NHL national TV schedule for the week, all times Eastern:

Friday, January 25
9:00p NHL Skills Competition NBCSN
Saturday, January 26
8:00p NHL All-Star Game NBC
Monday, January 28
7:00p Jets-Flyers NBCSN
Tuesday, January 29
7:00p Jets-Bruins ESPN+
7:30p Flyers-Rangers NBCSN
Wednesday, January 30
8:00p Lightning-Penguins NBCSN

The real game of the week is probably the last one listed here. The Penguins, crawling their way back up, are facing the Lightning, another Cup favorite, on Wednesday on NBC Sports Network. Could this be a potential conference finals matchup in the east? Will this Lightning core finally do what they’ve been promising to for the last five years or so with Stamkos at the helm?

Be sure to check back each week as we preview games and lay out the whole schedule for you right here at the TV, Internet, and Phone Blog.

NBA National TV Schedule 1/22 – 1/28, 2019

Like last week, the NBA continues its busy schedule in the month leading up to the almost week-long All-Star Break. This week you’ll be able to see as many as ten games on national TV, including primetime matchups on NBATV, ESPN, TNT, and even ABC. This week’s national broadcast TV game has the Golden State Warriors facing the team that many thought would meet them in the finals this year, the Boston Celtics, with fans in the middle of the country in places like Evansville, IN and Rochester, MN hoping both will lose. Even if you’re sick of coastal bias, there are plenty of games to watch this week.

Here is the schedule in full, all times Eastern:

Tuesday, January 22
8:00p Blazers-Thunder NBA TV
Wednesday, January 23
8:00p Spurs-Sixers ESPN
10:30p Nuggets-Jazz ESPN
Thursday, January 24
8:00p Warriors-Wizards TNT
10:30p T’Wolves-Lakers TNT
Friday, January 25
8:00p Raptors-Rockets ESPN
Saturday, January 26
8:30p Warriors-Celtics ABC
Sunday, January 27
6:00p Bucks-Thunder ESPN
Monday, January 28
7:00p Warriors-Pacers NBA TV
10:30p Hawks-Clippers NBA TV

For those wanting a more midwestern matchup, the Bucks and Thunder, both teams achieving well above predictions this year, play at 6pm on Sunday on ESPN, offering sports relief for fans having Sunday football withdrawal the weekend before the Super Bowl. Friday’s Raptors-Rockets should also be a good matchup.

Remember to check back each week for schedules, game previews, and a whole lot more right here at the TV, Internet, and Phone Blog.

NHL National Cable TV Schedule 1/17– 1/23, 2019

Like the NBA schedule for the week, this week’s lineup on national TV for the NHL is also busy. With 17 games airing across NBC Sports Network, ESPN+, and the NHL Network on cable TV as well as on NBC on broadcast TV, the NHL is kicking into high gear on your TV dial. There’s less NFL football to watch, college football is over, and fans from St. Cloud, MN to Arlington, TX will be tuning in to the hard-hitting action.

Here’s the full schedule for the week, all listed times Eastern.

Thursday, January 17
7:00p Blackhawks-Rangers NBCSN

Our pick of the week is Thursday’s ESPN+ matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. A potential conference finals matchup in the East, both teams are Stanley Cup favorites and play an exciting, offense-driven style that translates well to the TV screen. Crisp passes, speedy rushes, and vicious snipes aplenty can be expected from this matchup.

Be sure to check back each week right here at the TV, Internet, and Phone Blog to see the schedule for the upcoming week—and our favorite picks to watch.

NBA National TV Schedule 1/15 – 1/21, 2019

As the Rockets continued playing without Chris Paul, James Harden finally hit a wall last week, ending his profoundly impressive offensive streak with a game in which he shot 1-17 from three. Still, it’s a two-man MVP race between Harden, whose Rockets play the Sixers Monday on TNT, and the Greek Freak, whose Bucks are missing out on this week’s national TV lineup, and will only be available to local audiences in the Milwaukee market including Madison, WI.

This week’s national NBA TV schedule follows. All times are Eastern.

3:00p Magic-Hawks NBA TV
5:30p Pelicans-Grizzlies TNT
8:00p Rockets-Sixers TNT
10:30p Warriors-Lakers TNT

Part of the reason for the stacked schedule is a Monday Martin Luther King Day marathon, with five games including two daytime matchups on NBATV and three in the evening on TNT. The day closes out with Warriors vs. Lakers, with Lebron James scheduled to return from his groin injury for that matchup—which will also see DeMarcus Cousins taking the floor at center for the Warriors. Potential conference finals matchup? We’ll see.

This week’s biggest rivalry game is between Original Six foes the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins. The game airs Monday on NBC Sports Network and sees the teams separated by less than two games in the standings, with the Bruins currently in a playoff spot and the Habs on the outside looking in. These two teams play each other tough even when they’re both out of the playoff race—the fact that they’re both clawing for position in the Atlantic Division will make this rivalry game even rougher.

Another game between teams playing well is the Sabres-Flames tilt on January 16. The Flames are at the top of the West and the Sabres, after several years of mediocrity, are in playoff position behind young stars Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner. It should be a fast-moving, high-scoring matchup.

NBA National TV Schedule 1/8 – 1/14, 2019

With many teams hitting the 40 game mark, the season is halfway over. Though the All-Star break tends to mark the homeward stretch in the eyes of many fans, it really begins this week for many teams and started last week for some. Some teams have already made big changes, as the Minnesota Timberwolves fired head coach Tom Thibodeau over the weekend. Their first game with new leadership is the first game on our docket this week as they take on the Thunder on NBATV Tuesday. What is in store for the fans in Minneapolis and St. Paul? And how about the fans in the Los Angeles area, wondering when LeBron James will return? We bet he will before Sunday’s return to Cleveland.

Here’s the schedule for the week. All times Eastern.

Tuesday, January 8
8:00p T’Wolves-Thunder NBA TV
10:30p Knicks-Warriors NBA TV
Wednesday, January 9
8:00p Bucks-Rockets ESPN

NHL National Cable TV Schedule 1/3 – 1/9, 2019

Following last week’s Winter Classic and other nationally televised games, this week’s schedule is light, with only four nationally broadcast games, all on NBC Sports Network. Three of the four games feature one of the teams from the Winter Classic, the Chicago Blackhawks, due to their popularity all over Illinois from Marine to Salem. Though they’re not likely to make this playoffs this year, they’ll still put up a fight against the Islanders and Penguins on the road, and in next week’s divisional matchup the Predators at home.

Here’s the schedule in full, all times Eastern:

Thur., Jan. 3 Chicago N.Y. Islanders NBCSN 7:30 p.m.
Sun., Jan. 6 Chicago Pittsburgh NBCSN 8 p.m.
Tues., Jan. 8 Philadelphia Washington NBCSN 7:30 p.m.
Wed., Jan. 9 Nashville Chicago NBCSN 8 p.m.

The week’s non-Chicago game may be the best matchup of all. Next Tuesday, Metro Division rivals the Philadelphia Flyers, making a push to get back into contention, face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, who are looking to maintain their strong standard of success and keep the momentum going from the early summer Cup win.

Be sure to check in each week for game schedules, which games to watch, and what channels to find them on with the TV, Internet, and Phone Blog. Throughout the winter sports season, this is your destination for NBA schedules, NHL schedules, game previews, and more.
