The culmination of the college football season is tonight, as the Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the Clemson Tigers at 8pm EST. The game will appear on cable TV, with coverage on ESPN live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
The Alabama Crimson Tide, last year’s championship winner, is the favorite in tonight’s rematch, as they have looked unstoppable, particularly on defense, all season long, from an early defeat of west coast powerhouse USC to last weekend’s playoff first round win over the Washington Huskies on New Year’s Eve. Clemson also looked impressive, however, blanking the higher-ranked Ohio State on New Year’s Eve, and they are looking to avenge last year’s loss to the Crimson Tide in the title game.
ESPN is also looking for a victory: one in the cable TV ratings. Since the CFB playoff games have aired on New Year’s Eve, they have lost viewership in comparison to when equivalent bowl games would be played on New Year’s Day or after. There is no real competition tonight, however, and the majority of sports fans should be tuned to this game, unless Alabama fatigue—and an assumption that they’ll win this game easily—takes over.
We’ll check back on the ratings when the game is in the rear view. In the meantime, enjoy the matchup and the final college football game of the 2016 season.
