HBO Will Air Mike Tyson Telling the ‘Undisputed Truth’

Mike Tyson is nothing if not an interesting guy who’s had an eventful life. He grew up on the streets, tamed his rage to become one of the most feared heavyweight fighters in the history of boxing, married a beautiful TV star, divorced the TV star, went to jail for a rape he still claims he did not commit, returned to the ring, and bit off a big chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear. And that’s just the beginning of what Mike Tyson covers in his one-man show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.

HBO will air former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson’s one-man stage show later this year, the pay TV service announced Tuesday.

Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, directed by filmmaker Spike Lee, will tape in New York this July, according to network officials. The show recounts Tyson’s life in his own words, from his days as a troubled youth to his landmark boxing career to his controversial life outside the ring. Tyson recently wrapped up a 10-week U.S. tour of Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, which debuted in Las Vegas in spring 2012 and ran on Broadway last summer.

“Mike Tyson’s one-man show is a fascinating journey into his storied life and career, and we are thrilled to have Spike Lee bring it from the stage to the screen for our viewers,” said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming in a statement.

Judging by the sold out run across the United States and in Vegas, the audience for this should be pretty big. And judging by the anecdotes he’s told on shows like Pardon the Interruption, about showing up to bed his ex-wife only to have Brad Pitt show up at the same time for the same purpose, it shouldn’t disappoint.

The HBO family of networks air from 501-511 on DIRECTV.
